26/03/2024 - Dr Matthew Offord (MP) raises the issue in the House of Commons for a 2nd time.

"The cladding safety scheme is meeting the cost of addressing fire safety risks associated with cladding on residential buildings over 11 metres high, but that does not include low-rise buildings. The Minister has been contacted by Barnet Council following an investigation of a fire at a low-rise residential property last year, which established that 459 properties in my constituency constitued a category 1 hazard as defined by the Housing Act 2004. The council says that the remedial works will cost each homeowner £23,000, an unaffordable amount for many of my constituents. While low-rise buildings pose less of an escape hazard than high-rise buildings in the event of a fire, the widespread existence of cladding defects is a result of regulatory and industry failure and was not caused by actions taken by my constituents. Does the Minister agree that this is simply not fair, and will he draw up proposals as a matter of urgency to assist my constituents in this endeavour?"

The Minister for Housing, Planning and Building Safety (Lee Rowley) responds to Matthew Offord.

"I am grate to my hon. Friend for raising the matter of low-rise blocks. According to the evidence that the Department has seen when looking at properties less than 11 metres high, it remains the case that the overwhelming majority do not require fire safety remediation, but i should be happy to meet my hon. Friend to talk about that in more details. It is important that we continue to highlight the lower likeihood of a problem such as we are discussing today, but it is also important that there are routes to redress. The extension of the Defective Premises Act 1972 provides an opportunity in that regard. It is important for residents, leaseholders and others to be aware of such avenues, and i should be happy to meet my hon. Friend to discuss those further as well."

21/03/2024 - Matthew Offord MP raises Burnt Oak cladding in House of Commons, watch here. Please ensure you email Matthew at matthew.offord.mp@parliament.uk

"Barnet Council is legally not allowed to share the contact details of each resident with me because of data protection legislation so I am directly asking each and every person who has received a letter from Barnet Council about their timber framed home to contact me directly, in writing, stating their name, address and size of their property. This will allow me to take their cases directly to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities."

19/03/2024David Pinto-Duschinsky (our Labour candidate for MP) visits Parliament to meet with shadow Minister for Building /Safety, Mike Amesbury MP, to raise the issue of the cladding in Burnt Oak and how freeholders have been affected and for help on putting pressure on the Government. Additionally David has reached out to the chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on leaseholders (Justin Madders MP) and through him with the Chair of the National Leaseholders Campaign, although this is focused on leaseholders they have resources that could help. Once further conversations have taken place we will work for an on-going lobbying strategy.
